Task 2A&B: Key Artwork & Collateral

INSTRUCTION

Task 2A: Key Artwork
We need to create a key artwork using our name or pseudonym. The final key artwork must be an elegant solution, well balanced and composed, not complicated or confusing that leads to a functional and communicable key artwork. This key artwork will subsequently be used in Task 2(B) collateral.

1. Mindmap
We need to create a mind map about ourselves to find out what our key artwork will be like.
Fig 1.1 Mind map about myself, Week 4 (19.9.2023)

I have done the mind map about myself. I decided to make my artwork about my personality of shilly-shally which is also hard to make decisions. So, I decided to make the key artwork look like a liquid. Why liquid? This is because I think that I with the shilly-shally personality look like a liquid. When a liquid is touched, its shape will change. Just like me, when someone gives me a suggestion when I am making a decision for something I will start to think again about which decision I need to make whenever I have made a final decision before.

2. References
I tried to find some references on Pinterest.
Fig 1.2 References from Pinterest, Week 4 (20.9.2023)

3. Sketches
I came up with a few sketches.
Fig 1.3 Sketches, Week 4 (20.9.2023)

4. Digitalisation
I came up with two types of digitalisation sketches.
Fig 1.4 Digitalised Sketch#1, Week 4 (22.9.2023)

Fig 1.5 Digitalised Sketch#2, Week 4 (22.9.2023)
I chose digitalised sketch#2 for my final key artwork.
Fig 1.6 Final artwork, Week 5 (26.9.2023)
Compare digitalised sketch#2 to the final artwork, I made the lines in the artwork thicker.

Concept of final artwork: I am a shilly-shally person. It makes me bend and the lines on my artwork are the lines that are produced when I'm bent by hesitation some of them make me split but I'm still me even when I'm bent and split.

5. Exercise in class (Week 5)
We need to use our key artwork to do a cloth mock-up.

 6. Applying colour
I have tried three kinds of colour palettes for my final key artwork.

Task 2B: Collateral
We need to do a collateral mock-up and create an Instagram account to post 9 posts using our key artwork.

Expansion Key Artwork
The lines used for doing expansions are used from the letter 'L'.

Mock-up for collateral

I have created a few mock-up collaterals.

Animation
I have done a 3-second video using Adobe After Effects.

I make the key artwork look like the water flows down and the key artwork appears. After that, the colour changes.

REFLECTION
Experience
Creating my own key artwork and collateral was an engaging and enlightening process. It allowed me to dive into the realm of graphic design and visual communication, which I had little prior experience with. I started by brainstorming ideas and themes that would best represent the message or purpose of the collateral. This initial step was both exciting and challenging as it required a blend of creativity and problem-solving.

Observation
Designing key artwork and collateral involves a multi-step creative process, from brainstorming to execution. Each phase demands a unique set of skills and decision-making.

Findings
I honed my graphic design skills significantly. I am now more proficient with design software and have a better understanding of design principles. Furthermore, effective time management is vital for producing high-quality design work while meeting deadlines.

Semantics
-the search for the meaning of whatever we have to design
- Could be a search for more information about the Company, the Product, the Market Position of the subject, the Composition, its Destination, the final user, or indeed, about the real meaning of the subject and its semantic roots.
-will provide the real basis for the correct inception of projects, regardless of what they may be.
-in design, means to understand the subject in all its aspects; to relate the subject to the sender and the receiver in such a way that it makes sense to both.
