Project 2: MyTIGER Illustration Poster
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of global
goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable
future for all”. The goals were set in 2015 by the United Nations General
Assembly and intended to be achieved by the year 2030.
For Project 2, you are to submit your work in Maybank Foundation MyTIGER
Values Art Competition 2023. Based on your chosen topic, submit an
illustration poster that interprets your project aim through Maybank TIGER
core values of Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Excellence & Efficiency and
Relationship Building.
The 12 chosen SDG goals for this project are:
1. No Poverty
2. Zero Hunger
3. Good Health and Well-being
4. Quality Education
5. Clean Water and Sanitation
6. Affordable and Clean Energy
7. Decent Work and Economic Growth
8. Sustainable Cities and Communities
9. Responsible Consumption and Production
10. Climate Action
11. Life Below Water
12. Life on Land
Based on the art competition brief, create a digital illustration using Ai.
Exercise the composition theories, use of foreground, midground, and
background layout arrangements with design and typeface principles in the
creation of your cover page.
Think visual hierarchy. What is it that you want the readers to notice
first? Give hints and ideas about what the story is about, without revealing
too much. Subtlety is the key!
Each style has its own charms and challenges, so think carefully how you
want to highlight the topics by catching the audience attention. Choose the
best style that fits with your intent.
The challenges are:
1. You are to work only with the details in the competition brief
2. Include a logline to set up the mood
Progress
Research
Life below water faces several critical issues that require attention and
action to ensure the health and sustainability of our oceans, seas, and marine
ecosystems. Some of the key challenges include:
1. Overfishing: Unsustainable fishing practices, including overfishing and
destructive fishing methods, pose a significant threat to marine
biodiversity. It depletes fish populations, disrupts marine food chains, and
undermines the livelihoods of fishing communities.
2. Pollution: Pollution in the form of marine debris, plastic waste,
chemical contaminants, and oil spills severely impacts marine life. It
endangers marine species through ingestion, entanglement, and habitat
degradation, while also affecting the water quality and overall ecosystem
health.
3. Coral reef degradation: Coral reefs, among the most diverse ecosystems on
Earth, face numerous threats such as rising ocean temperatures, ocean
acidification, and destructive fishing practices. These factors contribute
to coral bleaching, reduced biodiversity, and the loss of critical habitats.
4. Habitat destruction: Destruction and degradation of coastal habitats,
such as mangroves, seagrass beds, and salt marshes, threaten marine
biodiversity and disrupt the balance of coastal ecosystems. Human activities
like coastal development, dredging, and pollution contribute to this habitat
loss.
5. Climate change impacts: Rising sea temperatures, ocean acidification, and
sea-level rise resulting from climate change pose severe risks to marine
life. These changes affect the distribution of species, coral reef
ecosystems, and the overall functioning of marine ecosystems.
6. Unsustainable aquaculture: The expansion of unsustainable aquaculture
practices, such as shrimp and salmon farming, can lead to habitat
destruction, pollution, and the spread of diseases that harm wild
populations and impact local ecosystems.

Final MyTIGER Illustration poster
Tittle:
Clean Ocean, Bright Futures!
Description:
The poster portrays the distressing consequences of pollution on marine life and the urgent need for action. At its center, a magnificent whale is confined within a small fish tank, symbolizing the captivity and suffocation resulting from pollution. The presence of an abundance of trash and debris surrounding the fish tank illustrates the extent of marine litter, including plastic bags, bottles, aluminium cans, shocks, fork, spoon and straws underscoring the impact of pollution on the marine ecosystem.
In the background, industrial factories emit smoke or toxic fumes, symbolizing the detrimental effects of industrial pollution on the environment, including the sea. This imagery serves as a stark reminder of the negative consequences of human activities on our oceans.
To further emphasize the dangers of pollution, the poster depicts toxic liquid waste contaminating the sea. The colored or dark liquids seeping into the water highlight the devastating effects of chemical pollution on marine life, illustrating the urgent need for prevention and intervention.
Through its visual elements, the poster aims to raise awareness about the detrimental impact of pollution on marine ecosystems and encourage viewers to take action. It calls for a collective effort to combat pollution and protect the health and well-being of our oceans and the creatures that call them home.
Reflection
In this project, I did a lot of research. I tried to do what I can do in this project. I tried to do a lot of sketches. That helps me boost my drawing skills. It has also helped me become more proficient with Adobe Illustrator.
