Project 2: Channel Bumper

INSTRUCTION

Project 2: Channel Bumper
For this project, I’ll use the knowledge from Task 1 to create an abstract 10–15-second channel bumper. I’ll start by selecting a real or fictional channel and develop a mood board and style guide to define the concept’s look and feel. Next, I’ll sketch ideas and test different concepts, digitizing them using appropriate software. A storyboard and animatics will guide the motion design, while carefully chosen audio will enhance the tempo and mood. The final video will meet the required specifications and be uploaded to my YouTube channel. My progress, including the mood board, style guide, sketches, and technical processes, will be documented in a slide presentation for submission.

Progress
First, I tried to find the brand that I was interested in. When sir was briefing this project with us, two brands came to my mind, one was Laneige and one was Food Panda. After that, I start to do the research for these two brands.

Laneige
Laneige is a South Korean cosmetics brand launched by Amorepacific in 1994. The name "Laneige" comes from the French word "la neige," meaning "snow," symbolizing purity and radiance. The brand focuses on advanced hydration technology, aiming to provide effective moisture solutions for glowing skin. Laneige's product range includes skincare and cosmetics, with popular items such as the Water Bank Essence, Water Sleeping Mask, and BB Cushion.

Food Panda
Foodpanda is an online food delivery service founded in 2012, with its headquarters in Berlin, Germany. Initially operating in Southeast Asia, the platform quickly expanded to other regions, including Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. In 2016, it was acquired by Delivery Hero, a German competitor, and became one of its subsidiaries. Foodpanda offers a wide range of food delivery services, allowing customers to easily order food through its website or mobile app. The company also expanded into other areas such as grocery delivery and lifestyle services.

After I had done the simple research for these two brands, I chose Laneige for this project brand. This is because I like this brand's product and its concept.

After I decided to do Laneige for Project 2, I tried to find any motion graphic animation video for Laniege. I do the research on YouTube and Pinterest. Then, I realised that there are not any motion graphic animation videos for Laniege. They mostly use 3D video to promote their products.

So that means I need to make a motion graphic animation video for them. This is a challenge for me.

I'm going to put Laneige in words in the video. I tried searching for keywords that describe laneige. The keywords that I get from my research are:
  1. Hydration

    • Core theme: Moisturizing and replenishing skin hydration.
    • Represents Laneige’s commitment to water-based skincare.
  2. Freshness

    • Light, refreshing, and cooling sensations.
    • Associated with morning dew, water ripples, and breezy textures.
  3. Natural

    • Harmony, green energy, and health.
    • Emphasizes natural ingredients like seaweed, plant extracts, and sustainability.
  4. Radiance

    • Bright, glowing, and illuminated skin.
    • Represents clear, healthy skin that reflects inner vibrancy.
  5. Comfort

    • Gentle, soothing, and calming properties.
    • Highlights Laneige’s focus on sensitive, non-irritating skincare.
  6. Purity

    • Clean, clear, and pristine.
    • Evokes imagery of clear water and pristine snow.
  7. Youthful

    • Energetic, rejuvenating, and dynamic.
    • Highlights Laneige's appeal to younger audiences.
Because of time limitations, I only choose 3 of the keywords which are hydration, freshness, and natural.

Here is the Product, visual element, colour palette and storyboard.

Progress in Adobe Effect
I do the bubble effect using CC Particle World

For the leaf, I use the CC Twister.
I also use the CC Light Sweep effect at the Laneige logo at the end.

Reflection

For this project, I spent a lot of time searching for references. At first, I focused only on motion graphic (MG) animations related to the Laneige brand, but I couldn’t find any. So, I expanded my search to MG animations about beauty products, but there were still very few or none. Most of the references I found were 3D animations. This was one of the challenges I faced.

The second challenge was creating smooth transitions. I found seamless transitions to be very difficult, so I searched for many references and tutorials to improve. Through this project, I learned a lot of transition techniques. I also learned how to use After Effects' built-in effects to create the results I wanted. For example, before this project, I thought bubbles could only be added using green screen footage. However, after exploring some tutorials, I discovered that AE can generate bubbles directly.

This project helped me improve my skills and find creative solutions to challenges.
