Project 1: Auditory Imaging

Project 1: Auditory Imaging

I am given a task to create an audio image using any of the combinations below. The audio should create an image from my first-person point of view, allowing listeners to visualize what is happening based solely on the audio tracks. It should tell a story for the chosen scenario. I am not allowed to use any voice or dialogue.

The choice scenarios are:
1. Wildlife + Background
2. Everyday Home Life + Background
3. Cities + Transport + Exterior Atmosphere
4. Industry and Electronic sounds + Background
5. Weather + Background
6. Market + Rural atmosphere + Background

The scenario that I have chosen is Everyday Home Life + Background.

Here is my first version of the scenario.

After that, I changed my scenario based on the feedback from Mr Razif which is the background sounds are too less. So, I added more background sound and I also made it shorter because I am afraid that the final audio would be more than 3 minutes.

Here is my final scenario:

Before I started to add sound effects for my project, I tried to find the sound effects from two websites which are:

After I find the sound effects, I start to arrange them and adjust them in Adobe Audition.

Overall look at my Adobe Audition:

I adjust the volume and the pan for the chirping of the birds. This is because it is an ambience sound it should not be too loud at the back part.

I make boiling sound volume from low to high because I think the water will go from a gentle simmer to a rolling boil.

The clock ticking sound also because is ambience sound so I make it sound low at the back.

I also have adjusted the Parametric Equalizer and hard limiter.

Reflection
This audio imaging project taught me not only how to create a story through sound but also how to select and edit sound effects to achieve the desired atmosphere. Searching for suitable sound effects was a meticulous process, as each sound had to accurately represent the action or ambiance from a first-person perspective. I then used Adobe Audition to edit, layer, and blend these effects, ensuring they flowed smoothly to create a cohesive story. Working with Adobe Audition helped me understand the technical side of audio editing, like adjusting volumes, adding effects, and timing sounds to enhance the narrative. This project has given me a better appreciation for the power of sound in storytelling and expanded my skills in sound design and editing.
